First of all, I would like to apologize for how late this post is. I have recently started a new job (which is very exciting) and have been rather tied up!
Now, I would really like to talk about the one thing that is covering ours sports and news networks right now: the FIFA World Cup. Like so many around the world, I am an avid follower of the World Cup. Why? Once upon a time I played soccer, but I don't think that explains my fascination. I feel the same way about the Summer Olympics (sorry to you Winter fans, but I just don't see the appeal). For whatever reason, I really enjoy watching this competition.
Due to my work schedule and subsequent exhaustion with my post-work responsibilities, I have only been able to catch the second half of most of the games that have aired - or bits and pieces during my lunch break or from watching highlights that I have missed. Today, as I was thinking about how much my life suddenly revolves around this televised sporting event, I had a thought.
What about everybody else?
What about the world events that are going unnoticed (relatively) because of the sudden attention that FIFA garners?
Has the obsession with FIFA really come this far? I know that now I don't even pay attention to the news - I flip right through the channels until I see a match or a replay so I can hear the speculations and see some of the new players that I don't know. Is there something fundamentally wrong with this?
Let me know what you think!
